Yesterday was interesting.
I knew it was going to be an interesting day from the very start, when I stayed up the night before and went to bed late unconcerned. I woke up at 8:30, which is late for me these days, to the sound of my alarm, which was, well, alarming. It was one of those, I'm waking up from sleep so I don't really recognize what sound it is, or associate it with anything, and I thought my phone was just ringing, but then I finally kinda came to and realized it was my alarm and before shutting it off, had the presence of mind to actually look at my phone first. Work. 10:50. Oh yea.
See exactly a year ago I was late for work for the first time. I went to a rave at ageHa with Greg and went to sleep at like 8am and woke up at 10:58 to Nova Personnel calling to ask why I wasn't at work. Damnit. Shift slide for National Holiday. Bastards.
So this time around I set my alarm, as well I should have, and woke up to it having no idea why I set my alarm, thusly proving why it was a good idea to have done so. I got ready for work, even headed out the door a few minutes early, and strolled leisurely to the train station. When I got there, the train was already coming, I made it by a matter of seconds, and when I looked at my watch, I realized, "oh yea, holiday time." Another stroke of luck.
So I hop on the train, and I get to Shin Matsudo Station, and I wonder, "Huh, when's the next train?" as I casually walk towards the platform. I looked up at the time display and see that it's...oh, right now. So I kinda keep walking, no rush, and then I hear the door closing music so eh, what the heck, I trot on up the stairs and waltz in just in time for the doors to close. 9:49am. Much earlier than usual. No risk of being late now.
And who do I see as soon as I walk onto the train? Melissa. I look at her, she looks at me, looks again, and then the recognition hit, it was funny. So she motioned for me to come sit by her, and I did, and we talked. She said it was weird to see me cause she was just thinking about me. She said that about 5 times. Anyway, apparently she's leaving on the 17th to go back to Australia. I knew that was probably gonna happen. But she said she wants to get together with me for that lunch we never had after my birthday, and I guess she still has my birthday card to give me, so that'll be nice. I did a good job not obsessing over it yesterday.
When I got to work though, lo and behold, Rob called in sick. Apparently Eleni's in the hospital, so, I understand that. So I had to teach all the kids lessons yesterday, but, eh, they were easy. All the problem kids didn't show up. Beautiful. Not only that, but my first lesson was an unprecedented triple no show, and my last lesson was a no show, so even the fact that I had my break after only two lessons, didn't really phase me. I only taught two actual lessons the whole day. All in all, not a bad deal.
